Who should read this:

Healthtech startups and scaleups, digital health policy leads, pharma companies, Non-government organisations working in health policy, equity tech, health data governance leads, health data access bodies and health data system regulators, API tools and providers

What it’s about:

The Global Health Policy Dashboard helps you assess the state of readiness and maturity of a country's digital health strategy and potential blockers and enablers for accessing data, building digital health solutions, addressing health inequalities, and enabling innovation.

Why it’s important:

Before building out a go to market strategy, or embarking on a digital health initiative in any country, it is important to be able to understand the digital health policy context. The Platformable Global Health Policy Dashboard helps you understand the drivers, enablers and blockers for digital health in any given country.

We have released our Global Health Policy Dashboard for free to anyone who wants to analyse and understand digital health ecosystems at the country level. We'd like to thank Roche Canada for their funding support in building this dashboard, and for supporting our analysis of 10 countries that can be compared with Canada. As part of our work with Roche Canada, we have also created a comparison report, available for free download from the dashboard site.

Global Digital Health Policy Maturity Dashboard
Access for free: https://healthdash.platformable.com/

For the health dashboard, we draw on our digital health policy maturity indicators, which in turn were drawn from a range of models around the world. We will be providing more research on how  our indicators align with other models in the coming months. We will also be continuing to expand our dataset.

Platformable's list of global digital health policy maturity indicators
Platformable's Global Health Policy Dashboard provides scores aligned with our research into global health policy indicators. The darker shaded indicators were used in the initial study comparing Canada's digital health policy with ten other countries. Congratulations to everyone involved from Platformable's side: Emily Barton and Eric Rochman led the initial research, dashboard and report designs are by Rebeca Vittorazo, and the dashboard was built by Alexei Garban and Leon Cangini.

Drawing on a limited dataset at present, which includes deep dives on 10 global digital health policies, a collection of around 30 digital health strategies, and some health data sourced from World Bank for each country, we will continue to expand the data over the rest of this year and start soliciting new features. (If you have a spare 2 minutes, please share some details on your data needs using the survey button at the top of the dashboard.)

The Global Health Policy Dashboard is suited to a range of use cases:

Health Tech
Health Tech
I need to understand which countries are best suited to our products and services by using ecosystem design thinking approaches that help me understand the digital health strategic context, local regulations and adoption of standards, other stakeholders and citizen digital health literacy.
Digital Health Policy Lead
Digital Health Policy Lead
I need a framework to measure our country’s digital health context against an international benchmark and to identify where to focus our work next.
Pharma Companies
Pharma Companies
We need a framework to assess countries we work in and to measure where we should best place our efforts.
Non-Government Organisations
Non-Government Organisations
I need a framework to measure where we should focus our efforts and to compare our country against others.
Equity Tech
Equity Tech
I need a framework to assess which countries are working to address health inequalities, and who I can partner with.
Data Governance Lead
Data Governance Lead
I need a framework to measure our country’s health data governance maturity, to identify where to focus our efforts, to learn from global best practices and to see who I can partner with.
Regulators
Regulators
I need to understand the digital health regulatory environment in other countries in order to compare ours. I need to have a framework to assess digital health regulatory contexts.
API tool providers and consultants
API tool providers and consultants
I need to understand how to measure the context in each market to be able to see how we should focus on the country for selling our products or services in that country.

If you are looking to introduce your healthtech startup into a new country, or extend your health data partnerships, you will need to understanding the digital health policies, strategies and regulations at a country level, as well as total addressable market with indicators such as life expectancy, use of digital health solutions by citizens, proportions of in-country inequality, and percentage of GDP spent on health. These are all important variables to consider when deciding on the level of participation you will want to play in a country's digital health ecosystem, and when taking an ecosystem design thinking approach.

Ecosystem principles for digital design from: https://digitalprinciples.org/principles/understand-the-existing-ecosystem/
The principles for digital development gives a neat summary of the reasons for analysing an ecosystem that align well with our motivations for offering the Global Digital Health Policy Dashboard. See: https://digitalprinciples.org/principles/understand-the-existing-ecosystem/

We are currently looking for additional partners and sponsors to help us extend the dataset to include standards, interoperability adoption trends, data access regulations, and dataset availability in each country.

Other leaders also see the importance in providing data for digital health providers to better understand the digital health policy environment in each country. During our research, we noticed that the French innovation department has created a resource, primarily for French healthtech, to help them understand the contextual issues such as policies and regulations, key stakeholders, and so on, that are essential to understand when creating a go to market strategy. We see the Global Health Policy Dashboard as being a similar resource — at a global level — for any healthtech or healthcare provider looking at how to better participate in a country's digital health ecosystem.

We are also looking for partners who want to create digital health ecosystem maps at the level you are operating, for example:

Ecosystem Icon Detailed map for your country of operations and focused on the burden of disease or therapeutic intervention you offer
Ecosystem Icon Detailed map of your ecosystem of partners and a map of a key competititor’s ecosystem so you can compare
Ecosystem Icon Detailed ecosystem map relevant to an upcoming policy.
